Music is delivered according to the National Curriculum to Years 7 to 9 through a series of integrated topics which combine the skills of performing, composing and appreciation. All pupils learn to play the electronic keyboard as part of this course. Music is also available as an option leading to GCSE, and AS and A2 examinations. Pupils who play additional instruments may also be entered for the Associated Board examinations. The Music department has several keyboards, digital pianos, two organs and computers which have composing software.

The School has a fine Choir, Brass Band, and Wind group and these enjoy excellent reputations both locally and beyond. Besides performing at school functions and concerts, they are regular visitors to Liverpool Cathedral, the Philharmonic Hall and other venues. The choir has performed in several cathedrals in the North West. Instrumental tuition is available from a team of visiting peripatetic teachers for piano, organ, guitar, brass, woodwind and drums. Nearly 25% of our students learn musical instruments and many are successful in the National Associated Board music exams.
