The Sixth Form Centre is self-contained and for Sixth Form use only; not having the lower school around makes a big difference, particularly for the girls. We can relax in the Internet Lounge, or use the open access computers. We are also lucky to have our own Study Centre, so we can work in peace. Mrs Gray, the Study Centre Manager, is on hand to help with printing and photo-copying work. The other open area of the centre, the Common Room/diner provides us with our own cafeteria and another place to enjoy free time.
Many years ago, the now famous Sixth Form Snack Bar, situated in the common room, was built to serve the sixth form drinks and snacks. Renamed the Sixth Form Diner this has expanded, and now full hot meals are served, together with a selection of sandwiches. This year, the Sixth Form Committee has carried out a survey of students’ views of the Diner menu, and, as a result, a number of improvements have been made. Another important factor for students is the provision of individual lockers. After the lower school years of having little personal space, the Sixth Form Centre provides a college environment.
The student body elects Social Secretaries whose aim is to respond to student suggestions and to organise socials, trips and visits. This year, there have been a varied number of events, including quiz nights, a ‘Jeans for Genes‘ day and a Christmas Pantomime, written, acted and produced by our students.

Regular trips to the theatre are organised and a lunch time Film Club is planned. We organised a successful Christmas revue, and there is an annual lunch for senior citizens. We publish our own sixth form magazine, Playpen and budding journalists, sportswriters, reviewers for films, plays and the music scene are all welcome to contribute. There is a Christian Union, and through the Faiths Partnership, we have launched a Debating Society. ‘Counterstrike’, the Computer Gaming Club meets twice a week. There are Subject Clubs for those interested in Maths, Biology and Psychology. Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the United Nations Model Assembly and Roscoe Lectures. Charity Fundraising also plays an important part in Sixth Form activities. Comic Relief Day is one of the charities which is supported.
The recent opening of our new Cricket and Sports Centre with Fitness Suite, dance studio, sports hall and modern male/female changing facilities will offer a wide range of opportunities to our Sixth Form. Students will be able to use the centre after school and, by arrangement, during free periods. Students will be able to organise their own activities; e.g. ladies keep fit and aerobics and mens five-a-side . This year there has been a charity Sports Day and an 'Olympics' fun day providing team building and bonding opportunities for all.
"If you decide to join our sixth form, these, and many other opportunities are open to you. The Sixth Form is what you make of it. It can be a time for learning new skills and making life-long friends."
