Liaison with Parents

St. Margarets Church of England High School

We regard parents as important in the education process and stress that our mutual support is vital. We encourage parents to contact the school at any time if they wish to discuss their son’s progress should special circumstances arise. As it is not always possible to see parents at short notice, it is advisable to telephone the school to make an appointment to see the staff concerned. The first point of contact is the Head of Year giving some indication of the cause for concern.

The School operates a system of twice yearly Review Days. The purpose of these days is to provide time for individual conversations between students, parents and a mentor, usually the Form Tutor, during which they can discuss their son’s progress, their achievements and in particular set goals for the months ahead.

Prior to the meeting Summary Assessments will be issued to parents for discussion at the Review.

In addition, each year group has one Parents’ Consultation Meeting a year. At this meeting parents are able to meet all the staff involved in their son’s education. Students are expected to attend this meeting with their parents. We organise other meetings and functions, in connection with the Parents Association, in order to inform and strengthen our links with parents. Letters to the school, should be addressed to the Form Tutor unless it concerns an on-going matter with some other member of staff. Arrangements can also be made to see the Headmaster. School correspondence is normally sent home via students and may be available on the school website.

We hope parents would encourage their sons to bring letters home, then sign and return the reply slips. The school now operates 'Parentmail' which is a texting and email system to parents.
